Proctoring Instructions for ETS

Instructions for Taking ETS® Proficiency Profile Exam (Windows or Mac Operating Systems)

Print these instructions to refer to while taking the assessment. You will not be able to access the instructions online once you have started the assessment.

Please read through this entire document before beginning the assessment.

The ETS Proficiency Profile is intended to be taken in one continuous two-hour session. In addition, you are required to complete a personal profile that may take an additional 10-15 minutes. Make sure that you are able to allocate the needed time during which you can work with as few interruptions as possible. You may use a basic calculator, paper, and writing tools. While performing this assessment, it is best to use Internet Explorer for Windows and Safari for Mac.

  1. Run a system check
    1. Go to etsreadiness.ets.org/ using Internet Explorer or Safari
    2. Review the ETS Proficiency Profile system requirements then select Check Readiness under the ETS Proficiency Profile.
    3. You may be prompted to Link this Devise to your institution. This information is not needed. Please select Skip this Step.
    4. Select Run System Check.
    5. Enter the information requested and select Run Check. Before clicking, make sure all applications are closed
    6. Follow the instructions on the screen to correct any issues detected.    
  2. Download the ETS secure testing browser.
    1. Close out of the System Check Results tab and/or browsing window.
    2. Download the ETS Online Testing Browser by clicking Get the ETS Online Testing Browser located at the bottom of the web page via etsreadiness.ets.org/
    3. Select Download, save the browser, and run the application.
    4. Once downloaded, you will be prompted to enter the session number provided by the instructor (instructor’s should contact the Testing Center after add/drop to set up the test date and be given the session number).
    5. Next, completed the login information. If you are logging in for the first time, enter your email address on the login screen and select “No, I have not logged in before” and then click Submit.
    6. Complete your personal profile and then click Submit.
    7. Once you have completed the profile and completed the tutorial, the exam will begin.
    8. When you have completed the exam, click Exit and Logout to exit. You’re all done!

 

***If for some reason you get logged out of the exam, please repeats the step; however, this time when you reach step 2E, select “I have logged in before” for that particular step. Enter the information indicated and your exam will resume where you left off. Do this as quickly as possible since the timer continues to run.
