Montague McMillan, 1892-1998

Isla Montague McMillan was born August, 29, 1892. A native of Marion, S.C., she enrolled at Limestone University in 1908, graduating in 1911. In 1917 Dr. McMillan was hired as an instructor at Limestone where she remained a professor until her retirement in May, 1970.  

Dr. Mac, as she was affectionately referred to, was an instructor of English at Limestone University for fifty years. She is revered by many as the embodiment of the “Spirit of Limestone.” During her tenure, Dr. Mac was also involved in civic affairs, church duties, and wrote the official history book of Limestone University titled Limestone University: A History 1845-1970 (see links below to read this book).
