Welcome to the Limestone University Library

Library iPad & Laptop Use Policy

The library has Lenovo laptops and Apple iPads for checkout (for in-library use only) to current Limestone University students, faculty, and staff.  Each laptop comes equipped with Office 365 and Microsoft Office Professional 2016 (which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Access). Each iPad comes equipped with many applications (apps) to assist users in connecting to the Internet, Canvas, and many software products.

General Rules:

  1. Students must show their LCard (Limestone University ID) to check out a laptop or iPad.
  2. All laptops and iPads should be returned to the Library Information Desk.
  3. Laptops and iPads may only be used inside the library.
  4. Only current Limestone students in good standing with the library may use the iPads and laptops.
  5. A student may not check out more than one of each item type. Example item types are: Laptop, iPad, Video Camera, FLIP Video Camera, etc.
  6. Users take full responsibility while the iPads and laptops are in their possession.
  7. Laptops and iPads cannot be reserved ahead of time unless being reserved by faculty for classroom use. They are available on a strictly first-come, first served basis.
  8. Printing capabilities are available on the laptops and iPads.

Failure to comply with these policies may result in loss of laptop use privilege.

No items or documents can be saved to a laptop or iPad. When using a laptop, all documents should be saved by the patron on a flash drive, by emailing it to their email, or to the cloud (OneDrive). When using an iPad all documents need to be emailed to the user’s Limestone University email, personal email, or uploaded to the student, faculty or staff’s OneDrive.

Acceptable Use Policies:

The library's circulating laptops and iPads should only be used for academic purposes. Inappropriate activities will not be tolerated. The patron:

  1. Shall Not view any unacceptable websites.
  2. Shall Not commit any other acts that would damage the laptop or iPad or violate the library's wireless access policies.

“Users will exercise responsible, ethical behavior when using these resources. Users will also refrain from using computing resources to view, print, or access in any manner, material that may be offensive to others."

"Limestone University will NOT be liable for the actions of anyone connecting to the Internet through the Internet on campus. All users assume full responsibility for their actions."

Check in/Checkout Procedures:

Checkout procedures for laptops:  A fully charged laptop will be checked out to the patron. Since the battery life on the laptops is about four (4) hours, if the laptop should get close to dying, the patron can exchange the laptop for a new one at the Library Information Desk. Earbuds are available at the Library Information Desk, but no headsets are available from the Library.

Checkout procedures for iPads:  Since the battery life on the iPads is about 8 (eight) hours no power supply will be issued. If a patron requests an iPad with keypad, both will be kept together and returned at the same time.

When finished with the laptop or iPad, the patron will return it to the Library Information Desk. The Circulation staff will visually examine the laptop or iPad for any damage or personal items. Any flash-drives found in laptops will be returned to the patron.

Patrons should not leave laptops or iPads unattended. If a patron must leave for a short duration, the laptop or iPad may be left at the Library Information Desk with the understanding that the check-in time will not be changed.

Patrons are responsible for the laptop, iPad and accessories until these items are turned in to the Library Information Desk. Patrons will be held responsible for any incidents involving the laptop or accessories, including theft of items. The replacement cost of the equipment plus a processing fee of $15 will be assessed if a laptop or iPad (and/or peripheral component) is lost, stolen, or damaged. Each incident will be handled individually and will be left to the discretion of the Information Desk staff. Patrons who abuse laptop and iPad privileges may have their laptop and iPad checkout privileges revoked. An incident report on each matter will also be forwarded to the Director or Assistant Director of the Library.
